Back in March, the Milwaukee Brewers handed a 21-year-old who had played three games at Triple-A an eight-year contract worth north of $50 million. Tonight, that bet starts to pay off in the only place it ultimately matters: the big leagues. Cooper Pratt, the Brewers’ top defensive shortstop prospect, is set to make his Major League debut as Milwaukee hosts the Cleveland Guardians at American Family Field.
How To Watch
Time: 7:40 p.m. ET (6:40 CT)
Venue: American Family Field, Milwaukee
TV: Brewers broadcast (BREW) · Guardians broadcast (CLEG)
Radio: WTMJ 620 AM (Milwaukee)
Pitching matchup: Cleveland’s Slade Cecconi (3–5, 4.83) vs. Milwaukee’s Robert Gasser (0–3, 6.38)
Prediction
The market sides with the home team: Milwaukee is a -154 moneyline favorite (-1.5 at +136 on the run line), with Cleveland at +130, and the total set at a low 8 runs — a nod to two shaky starters in Cecconi and Gasser.
Brewers Sign Shortstop Prospect Cooper Pratt to 8-Year, $50 Million Extension
That implies roughly a 61 percent chance the Brewers win, which tracks: Milwaukee owns baseball’s best record at 43–26, leads the NL in several offensive categories, and has a packed debut-night crowd behind it. The pick: Brewers take the opener, and with both pitchers vulnerable, the over on 8 is tempting. Don’t be surprised if Pratt’s glove shows up before his bat does.

The Debut: Cooper Pratt
Pratt is expected to be in the lineup for his debut; the Brewers will confirm his spot and position when the card is posted a few hours before first pitch. We’ll update here once it’s official.
Pratt, a 6-foot-4 right-handed hitter out of Magnolia Heights High School in Senatobia, Mississippi, was a sixth-round pick in 2023 who climbed the system fast on the strength of elite defense and advanced plate discipline. He hit .241/.349/.392 with six home runs and 17 stolen bases at Triple-A Nashville this season — a slow start followed by a strong six-week surge that pushed the timeline forward. He’s a former Futures Game selection (2024) and a Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove winner, regarded as the most polished defensive shortstop in a Milwaukee system loaded with infield talent, from consensus top prospect Jesús Made to Luis Peña and Jett Williams.
Expectations should come with patience. Pratt was a solid-not-elite prospect on most preseason lists, and the bat is the open question against big-league pitching. But the glove plays right now, the speed is real, and the Brewers clearly believe the rest will come — they wouldn’t have guaranteed $50 million otherwise. (For the full breakdown of that extension, see our March report.)

The Debut Prop Sheet
For the bettors: FanDuel has posted a full menu on Pratt’s debut, a rarity for a rookie’s first game. He’s a slight favorite to record a hit (-160), roughly even money for two-or-more total bases (+180), +110 to record a run, +145 to drive one in, and a +920 longshot to go deep in his first big-league game. The most telling number might be the steal market — “to record a stolen base” sits at +850, a reminder that speed (17 steals at Nashville this year, 79 in his minor-league career) is already a real part of his game. Odds as of late Tuesday morning; they’ll move.
More Than Just Misiorowski
The national story this season has been Jacob Misiorowski and his triple-digit heat, and for good reason. But the Brewers have climbed to the top of a competitive NL Central on far more than one arm. Milwaukee entered the night third in MLB in runs scored, second in on-base percentage, and among the league leaders in stolen bases, powered by a breakout from Jackson Chourio and steady production up and down the order. Pratt’s promotion — replacing the struggling Luis Rengifo on the roster — is the latest move by a front office that keeps finding ways to upgrade. The kids keep coming, and the machine keeps humming.
The Opponent
Cleveland comes to town as a fellow contender, making this a measuring-stick series for both clubs. Welcome to the Show, Cooper.
