WBN’s International College Baseball Player of the Week is Arizona third baseman Mathis Meurant.
Meurant, 21, is the only French-born player in the history of Division I Baseball to play for a power four school. He is 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, and a junior born in Vaires-sur-Marne, France.

Meurant is off to a fast start with two home runs, six RBI, and an OPS of 1.032 in 24 at-bats. He is a left-handed hitter and he’s chasing history. He is looking to hit the most home runs for all of France in Division I Baseball history, with all other French-born players having only six home runs combined.

Moreover, Meurant has helped Arizona get off to an 8-4 start, but he has higher aspirations such as winning a championship in Omaha.
“I like the program, the coaching staff, and I wanted to win a national championship,” Meurant said via the team’s website.
He remarkably didn’t play baseball in high school and made his baseball debut at Cochise College, a JUCO school located in Sierra Vista, Arizona, in 2023. Meurant had two strong seasons, with a career batting average of .353, five home runs, 92 RBI, 31 doubles, and nine triples in 106 games.
In his freshman year, he earned first-team NJCAA all-academic honors. In 2024, Meurant broke out and had career highs in home runs (five), RBI (49), and batting average (.374), which earned him first-team All-ACCAC and All-Region One honors.
Meurant also pitched three innings with four strikeouts and one run allowed for the Bismarck Larks in the 2024 Northwoods League, which is the summer for college baseball players. This is a wooden bat league, and Meurant also had two home runs, 13 RBI, and an OPS of .807 in 78 at-bats.
Arizona’s next game will be at home against Pepperdine, which will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 8 p.m. EST on Corbett Field in Tucson.
