Juan Soto Attends Tigres del Licey Game

Juan Soto made headlines this winter when he signed a 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets. The Dominican Republic native took time to attend the Tigres del Licey game against the Águilas del Cibaeñas.

Soto asked for permission from the Mets to play in the Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la República Dominicana, according to insider Héctor Gómez.

“I asked the Mets to give me permission to play 10 games with (the Tigres) in the Dominican Winter League,” Soto told Gómez. “I don’t know the date yet when I will do it, but I hope it will be soon.”

Soto has long been under the control of the Tigres but has never played winter ball, according to SNY’s Andy Martino. The Tigres are currently 5-2 in the semifinal round of the LIDOM season.

The Tigres won on January 8 with Soto in attendance. He even caught a ceremonial pitch from a young fan before the contest. With the LIDOM season coming to a close soon and spring training approaching, it is unlikely Soto will suit up for the Tigres this winter.
