As the 2024 KBO season progresses, here is a look at the top news and notes from the past day in Korea’s highest level of professional baseball.
KIA Tigers Continue to Roll
The KIA Tigers secured their fourth straight victory on Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Kiwoom Heroes. A four-run eighth-inning rally proved to be the difference, with Kim Do-Young providing the key hit with a tie-breaking triple, which was his 100th RBI of the season.
The win kept the Tigers seven games ahead of the Samsung Lions, and they moved their magic number down to six to clinch the best record in the KBO regular season.
Moon Bo-Gyeong Steals Home
LG Twin’s third baseman Moon Bo-gyeong executed one of the most exciting plays in baseball when he stole home off Hanwha Eagles starter Cho Dong-uk. The left-hander did not realize that Gyeong was taking an extended lead down the third-base line, and by the time he threw home, it was too late.
The theft of home was yet another highlight in what has become a career season for Bo-gyeong. The 24-year-old has a career-high .854 OPS while blasting a personal-best 18 home runs.
Guillermo Heredia Has A Monster Day
SSG’s Guillermo Heredia turned in another outstanding performance yesterday by going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in SSG’s 11-6 win over the Lotte Giants.
Heredia’s average now sits at a league-leading .360 clip, while his 105 RBIs rank fifth. Over his two seasons in the KBO, Heredia has totaled 28 home runs and 179 RBI while posting a .341 average.
Prior to joining the KBO, Heredia spent seven seasons as a part-time outfielder with five different MLB teams. His last stop with the Atlanta Braves netted him a World Series ring after playing 120 regular season games for the 2021 World Series Champions.
