Seventy-one wins in a single season!
That’s what Lorenzo Bundy accomplished in his first season as manager of the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, as well as leading the team to the Copa Zaachila, awarded for winning the Serie del Rey, the championship series of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.
He’ll have two more seasons to try and best that, if it’s even possible, as he’s been signed to a two-year contract to continue as skipper in Mexico City.
His club went 16-4 through the playoffs and made an incredible comeback to win the Serie Campeonato for the LMB’s Zona Sur. After falling behind the Guerreros de Oaxaca three games to none, Bundy’s Diablos won four consecutive elimination games to win the Zona Sur and earn a spot in the Serie del Rey. They had an easier time in the Serie del Rey, sweeping the Sultanes de Monterrey in four games.
“What I want is to win, to be a champion, and that’s why I came here, to be a champion with the Devils,” Bundy said when he initially joined the Diablos Rojos in November 2023.
Bundy played for the Diablos Rojos from 1985-88, when the team played at Estadio Seguro Social and won titles in 1985, 1987, and 1988.
