LMB Playoffs: Monterrey Takes 3-0 Lead Over Aguascalientes; Diablos Rojos Up 2-0

Sultanes de Monterrey 12, Rieleros de Aguascalientes 6 – Asael Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBIs as the Sultanes took a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Rieleros.

Sanchez hit a two-run single in the top of the first that scored Roberto Valenzuela and Nomar Mazara and homered in the fourth, with the three-run shot putting Monterrey up 11-0.

After falling behind 12-0, Aguascalientes scratched out six runs but never threatened Monterrey’s lead.

Game four is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EDT Thursday night. Jared Lakind will start for Monterrey against Ronald Medrano for Aguascalientes.

Diablos Rojos de Mexico 3, Pericos de Puebla 2—Jose Marmelos’. pair of RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly by Lewin Diaz pushed theast the reigning Liga Mexicana de Beisbol champion in Monday’s game. The game was suspended after seven innings and completed Tuesday due to rain.

The game resumed at the start of the top of the eighth inning with the Diablos leading 3-2. Tomohiro Anraku took the mound for the resumption and allowed one hit and one strikeout in one inning before handing off the ball to Jake Sanchez, who earned a three-out save.

The travel day originally scheduled for Tuesday will be observed today, and the series schedule has been pushed back a day. The series resumes Thursday in Puebla, with the starting pitchers yet to be determined.

Acereros de Monclova 6, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 3 – Staked to a 3-2 lead after five innings from starter Nate Antone, the Dos Laredos bullpen coughed up the lead and the game, allowing four runs on four hits in four innings of work as Monclova cut the Tecos’ series lead to 2-1.

Geoff Broussard came out of the Laredo bullpen for the sixth inning. He failed to record an out, allowing an RBI double to Balbino Fuenmayor, an RBI single to Aldrem Corredor that allowed Fuenmayor to score the go-ahead run, and a sacrifice fly to Eric Filia.

Kevin McCarthy will start for Dos Laredos against Jorge Tavarez for Monclova in game three, which is scheduled for tonight at 10 p.m. EDT.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna 2, Toros de Tijuana 1 – Nicholas Torres’ RBI single in the top of the fifth sent Allen Cordoba home with the winning run, and the Union Laguna bullpen held on as the Algodoneros took a 2-1 series lead.

Five relievers combined for Union Laguna to three hits and three walks over the final 4 1/3 innings, with Thomas McIlraith earning a five-out save, striking out two and facing the minimum five batters.

The series continues tonight in Tijuana. Aldo Montes will start for the Algodoneros against Ben Braymer for Tijuana. Game time is 10:35 EDT.
