Aaron Judge will be the captain of Team USA at the World Baseball Classic next year, and many stars are already expressing interest in joining him. Mike Trout has already noted that he wants to represent the United States again, and Pete Alonso is in the same boat.

According to Newsday’s Tim Healey, Alonso wants to suit up for Team USA again but has not had a formal discussion with Mark DeRosa.

“Pete Alonso said he has not spoken with manager Mark DeRosa about playing again for Team USA in the WBC next March, but he wants to suit up,” wrote Healey. “His possible competition for playing time/roster spots among American first basemen figures to include Bryce Harper and Matt Olson.”

Alonso represented Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but did not perform up to his standards. He had just two hits and a .143 batting average.

He is off to a great start this season. He has a 1.195 OPS with 12 home runs and seven doubles. Alonso may be entering free agency again next offseason if he opts out of his contract. However, he seemingly is not letting that stop him from playing in the World Baseball Classic.
