The 2027 MLB Draft will feature some great college baseball hitters getting picked towards the top. Here are three of them that World Baseball Network wants you to know about.
Brendan Lawson, SS, Florida Gators
Brendan Lawson has put together two great seasons with the Florida Gators in 2025 and 2026. In his two seasons in Gainesville, the shortstop has a .315 batting average with 29 home runs and 109 RBIs. He nearly reached 20 home runs in 2026, finishing with 19.
Lawson also has a career on-base percentage of .464. Plate discipline was something that took a big jump in his game from his freshman to sophomore season with Florida. In 2025, he had 33 walks compared to 56 strikeouts. In 2026, that flipped as he had 53 walks compared to 46 strikeouts.
Lawson was a second-team All-American this past season. That came after a 2025 season where he was a Baseball America first-team freshman All-American and a part of the Southeastern Conference’s (SEC) All-Freshman team.
According to Jonathan Mayo’s Way-Too-Early 2027 MLB Mock Draft, Lawson is projected second overall. The only prospect who is projected higher is Norco High School’s Dylan Seward.
Landon Hairston, INF, Arizona State Sun Devils
Landon Hairston finished the 2026 college baseball season as a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. He had a .400 batting average and a .509 on-base percentage with the Arizona State Sun Devils. Hairston also showed off his power with 28 home runs. He totaled 94 hits and finished with an impressive 1.368 OPS.
Despite not bringing home the Golden Spikes, Hairston was still the 2026 Big 12 Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-American.
The 2025 college baseball season was also a great one for the Arizona State infielder. That year, he finished with a .333 batting average and a .441 on-base percentage.
Heading into 2027, Hairston has set himself up to be the possible favorite for the Golden Spikes Award. He has also set himself up to be one of the best players in college baseball.
According to Mayo’s Way-Too-Early 2027 MLB Mock Draft, Hairston is projected safely in the top five at fourth overall.
Tague Davis, 1B, Louisville Cardinals
College baseball’s home run leader from 2026 is back in 2027. Tague Davis had an explosive season for the Louisville Cardinals. He had 34 home runs and 98 RBIs alongside a .355 batting average.
The Louisville first baseman set the single-season records for home runs in Louisville baseball history and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) history. He is also Louisville’s single-season record holder for RBIs.
The accolades did not stop there for Davis. He was named the ACC Player of the Year, was first-team All-ACC, and was also a first-team All-American.
In Mayo’s Way-Too-Early 2027 MLB Mock Draft, Davis is projected well into the first round at eighth overall.
