College baseball pitcher Jacob Gomberg was named in an affidavit from the Gainesville Police Department, according to Wired.
Gomberg was identified by police as someone who was behind a "burner account" on the social media platform X and posted sexually explicit content of a University of Florida female student. The junior pitcher was one of a handful of people who had accounts that posted that video, according to the evidence found in the GPD affidavit. The posts began to circulate in early November back in 2025.
The Wired article also states that it is unclear how the men obtained the sexually explicit content, but there is evidence that the group of people behind the accounts knew each other.
The female student who was the victim did not know Gomberg or the other people who posted the explicit content.
Gomberg charged with sexual cyber harassment
Nine months later, in August of 2026, Gomberg and other people who were behind the burner accounts were charged with sexual cyber harassment. The crime is a misdemeanor that can be punished with a $1,000 fine or up to a year in prison.
Wired did not receive a comment from Gomberg, as he declined to make a statement on the matter by way of his attorney.
Gomberg and his college baseball career
Gomberg is currently listed on the 2027 baseball roster for the Indiana Hoosiers. He is a senior heading into this upcoming season.
Gomberg transferred to Indiana after playing the 2026 college baseball season with the UNLV Rebels. He pitched 17 innings and picked up a win on May 3 against the Milwaukee Panthers. The Coral Springs, Florida native also had three saves and 21 strikeouts last season.
In 2024 and 2025, Gomberg spent his freshman and sophomore seasons as a relief pitcher for the Florida Gators before playing at UNLV. This is where the connection between him and the circulating sexually explicit content from nearly a year ago can be linked.
In two seasons with the Gators, he only pitched two innings.
