The LSU Tigers have made a huge addition to their 2028 high school recruiting class in Dexter McCleon Jr. McCleon is a top-five player in the 2028 high school class and plays baseball for Buford High School in Georgia.

McCleon’s athletic ability runs in the family

McCleon’s father is Dexter McCleon Sr., who was a 10-year veteran in the National Football League.

After playing college football for Clemson, he played for the St. Louis Rams for six years from 1997 to 2002. He won a Super Bowl with the Rams during the 1999-00 season. St. Louis defeated the Tennessee Titans 23-16 in that Super Bowl.

During the 2000-01 season that next year, St. Louis reached the Super Bowl again and played the New England Patriots. That was McCleon’s best season, as he had eight interceptions, two sacks, and 54 total tackles.

After leaving the Rams, McCleon spent four more seasons in the NFL. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2003 to 2005 and played for the Houston Texans during his final season in 2006.

A look at LSU’s baseball recruiting with McCleon’s commitment

McCleon is joining LSU’s 2028 class that now contains four high school prospects. Three of those prospects, including McCleon, are ranked in Perfect Game’s top 100.

The 2028 recruiting class for the Tigers ranked just outside of the top 25 before McCleon announced his commitment. With McCleon’s commitment announcement, and more on the way, expect LSU to shoot up the 2028 recruiting class rankings.

The Tigers recently brought home the number one recruiting class in the country during the 2026 recruiting cycle. LSU also has the number one recruiting class in the 2027 recruiting cycle. That class features seven top-100 prospects. That ties the Tennessee Volunteers for the most top-100 prospects in a 2027 recruiting class.
