After starting the season 6-13, a record that has put them at the bottom of the first-half standings in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, the Jaguares de Nayarit have fired Luis Carlos Rivera.

"The Jaguares de Nayarit Club decided today to name Erik Rodríguez as its new manager, who had been working as a bench coach in our organization since last year," the team said in Spanish in a release issued Thursday afternoon. "Rodríguez takes the place of Luis Carlos Rivera, to whom Club Jaguares wishes the greatest success."

Rivera is the first manager to lose his job in the LMP this year. Rodriguez, 46, played in the LMP as well as the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, serving as a player-manager in 2019 with the Guerreros de Oaxaca. He has been a coach for several years in both of Mexico's professional leagues.

Going into Wednesday night's game against the Caneros de Los Mochis, the Jaguares had a .709 team OPS, the second-lowest in the league, and had scored the third fewest runs (77) thus far this season. On the mound, Nayarit was even worse, allowing 6.44 runs per game with a league-worst 6.34 team ERA. They've allowed 195 hits and 116 runs, the most in the LMP, and had a team WHIP of 1.833.

They finish a three-game home series against the Caneros de Los Mochis tonight at 9:30 p.m.
