On Friday, October 16, the Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Lipscomb Bison 21-8 in a 10-inning exhibition game. The game took place at Covenant Health Park in Knoxville.
The Volunteers had 20 hits in the fall exhibition game. Some Tennessee players even hit home runs at the Minor League Baseball venue.
Incoming transfers Travis Sanders and Andrew Duncan hit home runs
The Tennessee Volunteers brought in one of the best transfer portal classes in all of college baseball this offseason.
Two members of that transfer portal class made an impact with home runs on Friday against Lipscomb.
Fifth-year infielder Travis Sanders hit a three-run home run for Tennessee against the Bison. He transferred to the Volunteers after playing for the Baylor Bears in 2026.
Sanders was the team captain for the Bears last season. He finished the year with a .369 batting average, nine home runs, and 44 RBIs. He was top ten in the Big 12 in batting average and also reached a career-high in home runs.
Sanders was also named second-team All-Big 12 during the 2026 college baseball season.
Another Tennessee transfer who hit a home run in the fall exhibition against Lipscomb was Andrew Duncan. His home run was a grand slam late in the 10-inning contest.
Duncan transferred to Tennessee after playing for the Wright State Raiders in 2026. He had a .367 batting average in 2026 with eight triples and 19 stolen bases. He led the Raiders in all of those statistical categories.
The outfielder was also named first-team All-Horizon League last season.
Freshman Sean Dunlap hits a three-run home run
Like Sanders, Sean Dunlap hit a three-run home run for the Tennessee Volunteers in their Friday night exhibition.
Dunlap is an incoming freshman for the Volunteers. He played for Crown Point High School in Indiana and was the number one player from the state, according to Perfect Game. Dunlap was also the second-best catcher in the 2026 high school class and a top 40 player nationally.
Next fall exhibition game for Tennessee
The Tennessee Volunteers' next fall exhibition game will be Sunday, November 1, against the Kennesaw State Owls. That game will be at Erlanger Park in Chattanooga, Tenn. The ballpark is home to the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
