The Oregon Ducks and the University of California-Los Angeles Bruins began their Big Ten weekend series on Friday. The Ducks got a 7-2 win, and the big story was their ace, Grayson Grinsell, who threw a complete game against arguably the best team in the conference.
Through the full nine innings, Grinsell gave up just one earned run and two hits. He also notched seven strikeouts and forced 13 fly outs. He did all of this while throwing just 105 total pitches.
It was the sixth win of the season for the junior southpaw from Reno, Nev. He has just one loss in 10 starts this season.
In his 59 2/3 total innings pitched, he has a 3.02 ERA and has allowed an opposing batting average of .215. He is top ten in the Big Ten in ERA among all pitchers.
The Oregon Ducks are now 26-10 overall and 13-6 in Big Ten play. The win Friday night against UCLA is their third in a row. They are now one win away from taking the series against the Bruins, which is huge for their resume heading towards the NCAA Tournament. Not only is UCLA one of the best teams in the Big Ten, but they are also a top 10 team in the country according to D1 Baseball’s rankings.
Up Next – The Ducks and Bruins will have the second game of their weekend series on Saturday, April 19, at PK Park in Eugene, Ore. The first pitch for this matchup is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. EDT.
