The Panama ProBeis league announced the schedule and rosters of all three teams playing the 2024 season this week.
Opening Day of the 2024 ProBeis season will take place on January 2 prior to the start of the 2024 Caribbean Series, which will take place from February 1-9 at loanDepot Park in Miami.
Aguilas Metropolitanas will play Panama Metro on January 2 at Estadio Rod Carew at 7 p.m. EST in the first game of the 2024 ProBeis regular season.
Sebastian Arroyo will be the manager for the Aguilas Metropolitanas, Jose Murillo will be the manager for Panama Metro, and Jose Mayorga will manage the Federales de Chiriqui.
Panama Metro last won the ProBeis regular season championship during the 2016-17 season and participated in the 2017 Latin American Series in Monteria, Colombia at Estadio 18 de Junio.
The Federales de Chiriquí, Panamá Metro and Águilas Metropolitanas are the only teams participating in the 2024 season. Games during the 2024 ProBeis regular season will take place at Estadio Rod Carew in Panama City, Panama, and Estadio de Béisbol Justino Salinas in La Chorrera, Panama.
Estadio Juan Demóstenes Arosemena was listed as the alternate venue location on December 7, RPC Deportes reported.
The Federales de Chiriquí and the Águilas Metropolitanas are the only teams returning from the 2022-23 ProBeis regular season for 2024.
The Astronautas Los Santos will not return for the upcoming 2024 ProBeis regular season after playing the 2022-23 season.
Atlánticos de Bocas Del Toro y Colón participated in the 2022-23 ProBeis season but will not participate in the 2024 regular season, the league announced on Nov. 9.
In the 2023 best-of-five championship series last season, the Federales de Chiriquí swept the Atlánticos de Bocas Del Toro y Colón in three games to go to the 2023 Caribbean Series in Caracas, Venezuela.
Panama finished 3-4 at the eight-team tournament and did not qualify for the semifinals. The 2023 Caribbean Series was the first time in the history of the tournament that it expanded to eight teams.
Panama will send the winning team of the 2024 Probeis season to the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami at loanDepot Park. Panama is one of the three invitees from the Confederación de Béisbol Profesional del Caribe to play in the 2024 event, along with Nicaragua and Curacao.
During the 2022-23 ProBeis regular season, Aguilas Metropolitanas finished in third place at 7-14 and lost to Atlánticos de Bocas Del Toro y Colón in the best-of-three semi finals series in two games.
In the 2023 ProBeis best-of-seven championship series last season, Federales de Chiriquí swept Atlánticos de Bocas Del Toro y Colón in four games to go to the 2023 Caribbean Series in Caracas, Venezuela.
This will be Panama’s sixth consecutive year sending a team to the Caribbean Series. They will open play on Feb. 2, the second day of the tournament, against Curacao at 10:30 a.m. EST at loanDepot Park on ESPN Deportes.
Panama will have the day off during the seven team tournament on Feb. 1.
Rosters for the 2024 ProBeis regular season will include professional free agents, players that played in the 2023 Liga de Béisbol de Panamá Mayor regular season, former and current MLB players, players in the minor leagues with MLB organizations and players that have experience playing in international professional leagues.
The top two teams in the 2024 ProBeis regular season will play in a best-of-five championship series, with the last game of the series, if necessary, scheduled for January 28.
The league has yet to announce where, and if, games will be streamed live.
