Leones de Caracas 8, Tiburones de La Guaira 5: Ronald Acuna, Jr. went 2-for-3 for Tiburones with a homer and two runs scored. But the bigger story was what Acuna, who plays for the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball, did after the home run: celebrating excessively by dancing up the first base line, gesturing at the home fans, making a slow trot around the bases, and then taunting the Leones dugout. Following the game, Acuna announced his retirement from Venezuelan baseball in an Instagram story, then deleted his Instagram account.
Despite home runs from Acuna and Balbino Fuenmayor, Leones won the game 8-5 to take a 2-0 series lead. Isaias Tejeda went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single, and five RBI.
The series resumes on Thursday in Caracas at 7 p.m. ET. and can be streamed by visiting www.BeisbolPlay.com/envivo.
Caneros de Los Mochis 10, Algodoneros de Guasave 0: Alejandro Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, and two runs scored, and Matt Pobereyko shut down the Algodoneros, allowing just one hit in six innings of shutout work as Los Mochis took a 2-1 series lead in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico championship series.
Game four of the series is tonight at 9:10 p.m. ET, with starting pitchers yet to be announced. You can watch the LAMP championship series on ExtraBase.tv.
