Same Faces New Places: One Thing from Each MLB Game

New additions are making their presence felt for their new teams. Here’s everything you missed from yesterday in the MLB.

Orioles 11 Blue Jays 5

  • In game one of the doubleheader, Zach Elfin made his Orioles debut, allowing three runs in six innings. Anthony Santander hit home run number 30 on the season to help win game one of the series.

Guardians 8 Tigers 4

  • Jose Ramirez hit two home runs in game one of the series in Detroit to tie Albert Belle for second all-time in Cleveland history with 242 home runs. Tanner Bibee kept the Tigers off the board until the seventh inning to help the Guardians win their third game in the last four.

Yankees 14 Phillies 4

  • The Yankees secured their first three-game win streak since early June thanks to two home runs from Aaron Judge and newly acquired Jazz Chisholm. Judge’s homer total is now 39 on the season, and Chisholm went deep for his first two in the pinstripes. The Phillies own the best record in the MLB at 65-41 but have hit a rough patch, losing four of five.

Blue Jays 8 Orioles 4

  • Vlad Guerrero homered in the second game of the doubleheader, his second of the day, to help Toronto split on Monday. The Orioles made three errors in game two, leading to three unearned runs. Baltimore has lost 11 of 17 and now has just a half-game lead over the Yankees in the AL East.

Mets 15 Twins 2

  • Every starter drove in a run for New York except new piece Jesse Winker, who singled in his first game since being traded from Washington. The Mets took the first game of a series between playoff contenders after losing the final two games of their series against the Braves. Both teams sit in the second wildcard spot in the respective leagues.

Red Sox 14 Mariners 7

  • Boston scored seven runs in the third inning to jumpstart their offensive showcase in game one against the Mariners. Masataka Yoshida drove in four runs including a homer for the Red Sox to slow their struggle since the All-Star break. Boston has lost seven of ten since the break and is one game behind Kansas City for the last wildcard spot.

Reds 7 Cubs 1

  • The Reds took game one of the series thanks to five scoreless innings from Carson Spiers, who returned from the injured list. Cincinnati went deep three times in the win. Five games out of the wildcard position, the Reds are 4-5 since returning from the All-Star break.

Rangers 6 Cardinals 3

  • Nathaniel Lowe hit a two-run homer in the seventh to extend the Texas lead and snap their three-game Nathan Eovaldi pitched six without allowing a walk, reaching a franchise record 166 batters straight without issuing a walk. The defending champs are six games back of the wildcard in the AL.

Pirates 6 Astros 3

  • Michael A. Taylor hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the ninth inning to put the Pirates on top. Paul Skenes allowed one earned run and struck out six in six innings of work. Pittsburgh is tied for second in the NL Central and two games out of the final wildcard spot.

Royals 8 White Sox 5

  • Bobby Witt hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to cap off the Royals’ six-run inning and complete the comeback against Chicago. The Royals remained in wildcard position and extended the White Sox’s losing streak to 15 games.

Brewers 8 Braves 3

  • Milwaukee went deep three times to take the series’ first game against Atlanta. The Braves remain in the top spot in the NL wildcard race, but their lead has shrunk to half a game over second and third.

Diamondbacks 9 Nationals 8

  • The Diamondbacks rallied in the ninth, scoring five runs to win. The rally was capped off by a pinch-hit two-run walk-off blast from Corbin Carroll. Arizona has won five of six and is a half-game out of the final wildcard spot.
