According to his Major League Baseball profile, the St. Louis Cardinals optioned right fielder Jordan Walker to Triple-A Memphis on April 24.
Walker, 21, was born in Stone Mountain, Ga., and made his MLB debut on March 30, 2023, at home against the Toronto Blue Jays.
According to MLBpipeline.com, in 2023, Walker was the No. 1 prospect in the St. Louis farm system and the No. 4 overall prospect in the Majors.
He was selected 21st overall by St. Louis in the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft. After his senior year at Decatur High School, he signed a $2.9 million bonus contract on June 23, 2020, forgoing his commitment to Duke University.
During the 2024 regular season, Walker has batted .155 with 67 plate appearances, playing in 20 games with nine hits, four doubles, one triple, four RBI, six walks, and striking out 18 times.
Walker started in 17 games in right field in 2024 for St. Louis and played in 132 innings with 24 chances, 22 putouts, two assists, no errors, and one double play.
In spring training, Walker played in 20 games and batted .255 in 61 plate appearances, smacking 13 hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run, eight RBI, two stolen bases, eight walks, and 15 strikeouts.
Last season, Walker played in 117 games, batting .276 with 465 plate appearances, slugging 116 hits, 19 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, 51 RBI, seven stolen bases, 37 walks, 104 strikeouts, and a .787 OPS.
Walker has played in 388 games between the minors and the MLB with a lifetime average of .288 in 1,659 plate appearances with 418 hits, 91 doubles, 10 triples, 58 home runs, 203 RBI, swiping 50 bases, 160 walks, 380 strikeouts, and a .848 OPS.
