On Monday, the Tennessee Volunteers and head coach Tony Vitello continued their hot hunt on the recruiting trail by landing a big-time pitcher in high school.
Left-hander Cameron Appenzeller committed to Tennessee via social media. He is top 25 in the 2025 high school class and the number two lefty in the class nationally.

Appenzeller was considering Tennessee and other SEC schools like South Carolina and Mississippi State.
A big thing to remember about Appenzeller is that he also has a good amount of draft stock for the 2025 MLB draft. Jonathan Mayo from MLB.com ranks him among the top 20 high school prospects heading into next season’s draft.
According to Mayo, Appenzeller has a mid-90s fastball with a good slider and changeup mix.
The Volunteers recently added another huge 2025 recruit a few weeks ago in Billy Carlson, as they got him to flip his commitment from Vanderbilt. Appenzeller’s decision adds to the great start Tennessee is having with recruiting.
Vitello and the Vols are coming off having the number one overall high school recruiting class in the 2024 cycle. Currently, Tennessee is still sitting in the top five for the 2025 team rankings in recruiting, according to Perfect Game.
