The Road to Mexicali: Charros de Jalisco Take 3-1 Series Lead; LIDOM Finals Nearly Set

Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico

Charros de Jalisco 4, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 0 – Gabriel Arias’ first-inning triple drove in the Charros’ first run Jack Mayfield’s double scored Julian Ornelas, and Donovan Casey singled Mayfield home for a 3-0 lead. Six Charros pitchers threw a combined four-hit shutout, allowing six walks and striking out eight as Jalisco tooka. 3-1 series lead.

Caneros de Los Mochis 5, Tomateros de Culiacan 0 – Eric Filia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the Caneros’ first run across in the eighth, and Yasmany Tomas, who led the league in homers, launched the very next pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam. Starter Luis Miranda threw seven innings for Los Mochis, allowing two hits, a walk, and striking out four, as Los Mochis tied the series at two games apiece.

LIDOM

Leones del Escogido (9-4) 2, Estrellas Orientales (5-8) 1 (10 Innings) – Robinson Cano’s double sent Luis Suisbel home for a 1-0 Estrellas lead in the first, but the lead didn’t hold, as Junior Caminero singled in the eighth, sending Socrates Brito in to tie the game for the Leones. In the top of the 10th, Zoilo Almonte reached on an error by Cano that allowed Jose Siri to score the go-ahead run. A Leones win or an Estrellas loss would clinch the Leones a berth in the LIDOM championship series.

Tigres del Licey (10-3) 4, Aguilas Cibaenas (2-11) 3 – Sergio Alcantara hit a two-run homer in the eighth to tie the game, and then Aguilas reliever Sam McWilliams threw a wild pitch that allowed Johan Rojas to score the go-ahead run, dooming the Aguilas to their 11th defeat in the 18-game round robin. The Tigres have secured a berth in the LIDOM championship series.

Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional

Navegantes de Magallanes (6-9) 6, Aguilas del Zulia (6-8) 2 – Yangervis Solarte went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored as the Navegantes improved to 6-9. Andres Chapparo hit his league leading sixth playoff homer for the Aguilas.

Bravos de Margarita (10-5) 5, Tigres de Aragua (4-10) 2 – Juan Santana’s fourth-inning ground out sent Jose Martinez home, and later, Santana’s two-run homer gave the Bravos a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. The Bravos win combined with the Aguilas loss clinched a spot in the LVBP championship series, where they will face the Cardenales de Lara.
