On Friday, the Dominican Republic came out on top as champions of the 2025 Caribbean Series in Mexicali.
Now that the event is over, here are the top five games from this recent edition of the Caribbean Series.
On Feb. 4, Puerto Rico gave the audience a comeback for the ages against the eventual championship team in the Dominican Republic.
After three innings, the D.R. had a 7-3 lead on Puerto Rico. However, later in the game, the Puerto Ricans provided the answer that was needed.
A five-run eighth inning made it a 9-7 game late. This was in large part thanks to three RBI from Eddie Rosario.
Puerto Rico completed the win by a final score of 10-7. This kind of comeback was one of a kind this winter in Mexicali and deserves the title of the best game of the entire tournament.
The champions of the Caribbean Series got to the final game via a big-time extra innings win over Venezuela.
In a highly offensive battle that included 19 hits from both teams, Venezuela put up three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to mount a comeback. This came after they had been shut out the entire game up until that point.
The Venezuelans tied the game up and it went to extra innings. Both teams exchanged a run apiece in the 10th inning, but then the Dominican Republic would deliver the final blow.
Socrates Brito got a hit that scored Junior Lake. This gave the D.R. a 5-4 lead, and that ended up being the final score.
This was also one of the best games in the entire tournament. Who doesn’t love an extra innings battle with a spot in a championship game on the line?
The Dominican Republic took home their 23rd Caribbean Series championship after a 1-0 win over Mexico in a pitching battle.
Both starters gave up a combined four hits, and the D.R. pitching staff threw a one-hit game against Mexico.
The only run that came in to score was on a double play ball that was hit by Robinson Cano. However, it would be enough for the Dominicans to take home some hardware in Mexicali.
This championship game may not have delivered a crazy amount of highlight plays. However, a championship game is a championship game. Thus, it deserves a spot amongst the top five games from the tournament.
Venezuela and Japan may have been the last two teams in the final standings when the Caribbean Series was all said and done.
However, when they faced off against each other on Feb. 4, Venezuela starting pitcher Jesus Vargas made history.
In a 10-0 win over Japan, Vargas delivered an eight-inning no-hitter. He tossed seven strikeouts to go along with his historic outing.
Vargas became the third player in the history of the Caribbean Series to throw a no-hitter.
Although these two countries finished at the bottom in Mexicali, Vargas’ big game was a part of history that deserves to be recognized as one of the best games of the tournament.
Before the championship game, Mexico got a big win against the Dominican Republic during round robin play.
The game was a battle between unbeaten teams. The pitchers duel that ended in a 2-0 win for Mexico was truly a sign of things to come.
The Mexico pitching staff gave up a combined three hits, walked only one batter, and struck out six hitters during the win.
Much like the championship, the first game between the Dominican Republic and Mexico did not have a bunch of highlight reel moments. But it truly was the ultimate prediction for who the best two teams were all tournament long in Mexicali.
