Here are some of college baseball’s top matchups this weekend.
UNC Wilmington Seahawks v. Southern Miss Golden Eagles
Two highly talented mid-majors will battle it out in Hattiesburg, Miss., for a three-game series.
Despite a blowout loss to Mississippi State, Southern Miss has a 9-4 record and is coming off a series win last weekend against the TCU Horned Frogs.
UNC Wilmington is looking to bounce back before conference play starts. They are coming off a loss against the Louisiana Rajun Cajuns, but they did earn a series win over Liberty last weekend.
The first pitch at Pete Taylor Park on Friday, Mar. 7, is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
Oregon Ducks v. USC Trojans
These former Pac-12 teams now meet for the first time as members of the Big 10.
The Oregon Ducks are rolling ahead of this matchup, having won eight straight games. They have pitched two shutouts in their past two games against Columbia and Utah Tech.
USC has hit a rough patch after back-to-back losses against UCLA and UC Santa Barbara. However, they are a nine-win team who had wins against Vanderbilt and UConn last weekend.
This is a great tone-setter for both teams in their new conference for the remainder of the season.
The first pitch between Oregon and USC at Great Park in Irvine, Calif. is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EST.
Dallas Baptist Patriots v. Louisiana Rajun Cajuns
Both Dallas Baptist and Louisiana are coming off strong midweek performances. The Patriots shut out the Oklahoma Sooners and Louisiana took down UNC Wilmington.
The Pats now have a tough road test but are riding a three-game winning streak. Louisiana is below .500. However, a series win at home against DBU would go a long way in turning their season around.
The first pitch at Russo Park in Lafayette, La., is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
