The University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated Cal State Northridge 10-9 on Sunday to complete a series sweep and earned their fourth straight win.
The big story of Sunday’s game came from UCSB center fielder LeTrey McCollum, who hit for the cycle against the Matadors. The home run he hit to complete the cycle was a two-run shot to end the game.

It is the first cycle completed by a UC Santa Barbara player in 28 years. Michael Young was the last player to do it for the program, accomplishing the feat in 1997.
McCollum also scored two runs in the game. Along with the home run, the other run he had came from an RBI knock by Xavier Esquer.
The big day for the center fielder also extended his hitting streak to seven games. The streak started on Feb. 28 when the Gauchos played Fresno State.
McCollum’s batting average jumped because of the big four-hit day and now sits at .328 this season. He had eight hits over the course of three games this past weekend against Cal State Northridge.
As for UC Santa Barbara, they are now 13-2 and have a 3-0 start in Big West play thanks to the sweep and the big day from McCollum.
Their next game will be a midweek matchup against San Diego at home in Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. After that, the Gauchos will hit the road to play Hawaii for a weekend series. The Rainbow Warriors are also one of the top teams in the Big West with an 11-4 overall record.
The first pitch for UCSB’s midweek game against San Diego is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.
