Senior third baseman Nick Lorusso of the University of Maryland picked up his 100th RBI of the 2023 season in a 7-2 win against at the Winston-Salem NCAA Regional Friday.

Lorusso became the first player to reach 100 RBIs since New Mexico State’s Billy Becher had 118 in 2003.

Lorusso went 3-for-4 with a single, triple, and a home run, adding two RBI with two runs scored Friday.

Lorusso would help the Terrapins get on the board in the first inning when he launched a solo home run over the left center field wall for the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Maryland added an insurance run when Lorusso ripped his second hit of the day and earned his second RBI with a single to left field, scoring Matt Shaw as the Terps took a 4-2 lead.

The 2023 Big Ten Champions did not look back the rest of the way as they went on to beat the Northeastern University Huskies by the score of 7-2 in the first game of the NCAA Regional round.

Lorusso’s 24th home run of the season tied Maryland’s single-season home run record with Chris Alleyne, who had 24 last season.

During the 2023 season, Lorusso is hitting .375 through 59 games with 256 at-bats, recording 96 hits, 19 doubles, 101 RBI, and 33 walks with a 1.188 OPS.

Lorusso has 27 multi-RBI games in the 2023 season, and had eight games with four or more RBI.

On April 19, against James Madison University, Lorusso had six RBI, going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.

On May 7, against the University of Nebraska, Lorusso had eight RBI and went 3-for-5 with a single and two home runs.

No. 19 Maryland (42-19) will take on No. 1 Wake Forest University (48-10) on Saturday night in the winners bracket at 6 p.m. EDT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with a paid subscription.

Northeastern University will play the Atlantic 10 champion, George Mason University, in the losers bracket on Saturday at 12 p.m. EDT on ESPN+.
