The Algodoneros de Guasave of the LMP will compete in the 2024 Barcelona Baseball Cup in the fall. They will join Cocodrilos de Matanzas from Cuba, a team from the Catalan Baseball League, and the Spain All-Stars as the makeup of the tournament, which will be held in September 2024.
Algodoneros de Guasave will travel roughly 6,000 miles from Mexico to Barcelona to compete in the Cup, which will take place from Sep. 24 to 29. The team from the Mexican Pacific League is in its fifth year of existence in its current iteration, but in the original iteration, Algodoneros won a league championship in 1972.
Cocodrilos de Matanzas of the Cuban National Series will also take the trip to Spain to compete. The team is the reigning Cuban Elite League champion and a one-time National Series champion in the 2019-2020 season.
The team from the Federació Catalana Beisbol i Softbol and Spanish All-Star teams round out the field of competition. The FCBS team is yet to be determined, but Spain will bring their highest level of competition for the showcase.
The tournament will be held at three stadiums: Viladecans Baseball Field, Carlos Pérez Rozas Baseball Field, and Sant Boi Baseball Field. Sant Boi and Carlos Pérez Rozas are both fields located in Barcelona. At least one game will be played each day, with the final set to take place on Sunday, September 29.
The six-day event in Barcelona featuring three different countries will provide even more international baseball on display in the fall.
