Game 2 of the Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la Repúblicana (LIDOM) championship series proved to bring just as much drama as Game 1. Jean Segura capped off a late-inning Leones rally by delivering a single with the bases loaded to take the lead in the eighth inning. They held on in the ninth inning to win the game 3-2 to tie the Serie Final at 1-1.

The Leones del Escogido went into the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing the Tigres del Licey 2-1. After a pair of singles and a groundout, first base was open when the scorching hot Junior Caminero stepped up to bat. Caminero had a 1.003 OPS in the regular season and a 1.285 OPS in the semifinal round. The Tigres walked Caminero and struck out the next batter. Segura stepped up with two outs, and the bases loaded. He delivered a clutch single to bring in two runs and take the lead. Segura spoke to LIDOM.com on the moment he stepped up to the plate after the game.

“I was mentally prepared to hit. I have been in this situation many times in my career, and thank God for giving me the blessing and wisdom to deal with these moments,” said Segura in Spanish.

Despite Segura giving the Leones the lead, the game was far from over. Rafael Montero came on in the ninth inning to try and convert the save. He succeeded and evened up the series at one apiece.

Game 3 will take place on Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. ET. The Tigres are looking to win their third straight Serie Final and once again go to the Caribbean Series.
