Ronald Acuna Jr. walked out of the clubhouse and announced his retirement from Venezuela Professional Baseball during last night’s Game 2 of the Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional championship series after hitting a monster home run in the top of the fourth inning at Estadio Universitario in Caracas.
Acuna posted on social media last night about leaving Tiburones. The post, which went viral in a matter of minutes, explained that the outfielder left an altercation that his family had in the stands during the game.
The Braves front office and Acuna have gone back and forth during the Major League offseason about limiting his winter ball and World Baseball Classic participation as he works to recover from multiple injuries.
Wilson Garcia replaced Acuna, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Tiburones de La Guaira is down two games to none in the series. Game three will be Thursday night at 6 p.m. ET at Estadio Forum La Guaira.
