Besides the Olympics, the Asian Games are the largest multi-sport event in the world.

The baseball portion of the 2026 Asian Games began Monday in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

The tournament will run from Sept. 21-27 at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Baseball Stadium in Okazaki and Toyohashi Municipal Baseball Stadium in Toyohashi.

Eight nations from Asia and the Middle East are competing in this edition of the Asian Games. They are split into two groups.

Group A consists of Japan, China, the Philippines, and Palestine. South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Thailand make up Group B.

Palestine is making its tournament debut, but it fell 12-0 to the Philippines in the tournament's second overall game.

In its opening game on Monday, Japan defeated China 11-3. Left fielder Motoki Mukoyama went 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate.

Thailand, which defeated Hong Kong 10-7, used a seven-run eighth inning to complete a comeback after trailing by as many as five runs.

Elsewhere in Group B, South Korea won 5-0 over Chinese Taipei. Starting pitcher Gwak Been of the Korea Baseball Organization's Doosan Bears threw six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.
