On Thursday, September 3, Dayton Tockey announced that he is returning to the Oklahoma Sooners for the 2027 college baseball season.

Tockey, along with Oklahoma football defensive lineman Danny Saili, was granted a temporary restraining order from Judge Thad Balkman in the Cleveland County District.

An injunction hearing will be coming up soon, but Tockey is eligible to return to the Sooners for a fifth season until then.

Tockey and his career with Oklahoma

Tockey spent the 2025 and 2026 college baseball seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners. He transferred to Norman after playing JUCO baseball for Weatherford Community College.

In two seasons with Oklahoma, Tockey finished with a .250 batting average, 12 home runs, and 45 RBIs.

Notably, the Fort Worth native played a big role in the Sooners winning the 2026 national championship. During the Atlanta regional final against Georgia Tech, Tockey hit a home run in extra innings. This was a walk-off home run, and it sent Oklahoma to the Lawrence super regional, where they would play Kansas.

In the Lawrence super regional, Tockey homered in both games Oklahoma played against the Jayhawks.

He would continue to make an impact during the Sooners' national championship run during the College World Series in Omaha. During the national championship series against the North Carolina Tar Heels, he had three hits.

Two out of those three hits came during game three of the national championship series, which is the game where Oklahoma won the national championship. One of Tockey's hits in that game was a home run.

Tockey's return to Oklahoma better equips the Sooners for their national title defense in 2027. The fifth-year veteran showed he was a postseason player last season, which makes him a dangerous player for teams playing the Sooners.
