The final day of the first round of the Serie de Las America ended with two games being played at Estadio Nacional Soberanía and one at Estadio Rigoberto López Pérez in Nicaragua. Once again, it was runs, runs, and more runs.
Cuba 18 – Argentina 5
In a must-win game, Cuba ensured they would be moving on as they would score 18 runs en route to dominating Argentina. Each batter from 5-9 had at least one RBI, but the story of the game is Yordany Alarcon, who ended the day with six RBIs. Alarcon would record his first double and homer of the tournament as he helped Cuba move on to the next round. Andy Vargas would be the winning pitcher as he would throw four scoreless innings as the bulk pitcher.
Nicaragua 7 – Colombia 2
Nicaragua wrapped up their strong opening round with another win. Thanks to a six-run sixth inning, they easily defeated Colombia. Three players recorded at least two RBIs, with Juan Diego’s two-run single being the big blow. Nicaragua relied on its strong bullpen to end the game, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings to close it out.
Curacao 11 – Panama 8
Curacao would finish the opening round undefeated, riding their hot offense once again. The player of the game was Raysheandall Michel, who led the team with three RBIs. Ray Patrick Didder once again had an RBI as Curacao stopped a strong comeback from Panama. Nigel Calmes pitched three innings of one-run ball and recorded the win.
