Venezuela Scores 8 Runs in Premier12 Win over Mexico

On Saturday, Mexico and Venezuela faced off for their first Premier12 game at the Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Mexico. Venezuela ended up the winners, defeating Mexico by a final score of 8-4.

The scoring got started with a solo home run in the second inning from Venezuelan third baseman Jermaine Palacios. Diego Castillo added on in the inning with a two-run double that extended Venezuela’s lead to 3-0.

In the fifth inning, right fielder Ramon Flores added to Venezuela’s lead with an RBI double to make it 4-0. Just one inning later in the sixth, Venezuela tacked on three more runs to really separate them from Mexico. This made it a 7-0 game heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Palacios made his presence felt once again with his second home run of the game in the seventh inning. This extended Venezuela’s lead even further to 8-0.

Mexico finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run from Alan Trejo. Designated hitter Chris Carter followed that up and hit a solo shot himself in the eighth inning. This cut the Venezuela lead down to 8-2.

Jose Rojas singled into right field to cut Venezuela’s lead in half with 2 RBI making it 8-4 in the ninth inning before the game came to an end.

When it came to pitching, Ricardo Pinto had a great start for Venezuela. He allowed no runs through five innings and struck out six Mexican batters as well. This was enough to allow the Venezuelan lineup to get way out in front into the middle innings to really put their foot down in their first game.

Venezuela’s next game will be Sunday, Nov. 10, as they will face off against Panama at 1:00 p.m. EST at the Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Mexico’s next game will be against Puerto Rico on Nov. 10. The game will also be played at the Estadio Panamericano following the Venezuela-Panama game. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. E.T.
