If there’s a baseball oddity to happen, the odds are that it might happen in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.

Last year, the Conspiradores de Queretaro threw a no-hitter against the Tigres de Quintana Roo and managed to lose the game 1-0. Last night, the Dorados de Chihuahua got a unique grand slam in their 8-7 win against the Acereros de Monclova.

Leading 4-3 in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and one out, the Dorados de Chihuahua had already scored the go-ahead run in the inning, and Joel Flores was looking to drive in a few more.

With an 0-1 count, Monclova’s Estalin Ortiz threw a breaking ball, and Flores hit a single into right center. Monclova’s center fielder, Magneuris Sierra, who had been the hero for Monclova a night earlier, aggressively charged the ball, which bounced hard on the ground and away from Sierra.

The ball rolled all the way to the wall, and all three Chihuahua runners and Flores scored, giving him an incredibly rare inside-the-park grand slam.

The Acereros chipped away at the lead, but were never able to tie the game and lost 8-7.
